For those of us not going anywhere hot and sunny, the idea of March break seems daunting. Yes, we have 7 sleep-in days and 7 relaxing days, but sometimes you just want to go out and do something fun! So instead of the classic go-to-the-theatre or play-video-games-all-day, here are 7 super awesome March Break ideas! And guess what? They are all local!
1. Pillow Forts and Nerf Guns
What more could you ask for? Get as many pillows and people as you can and have a full-blown nerf gun battle! For added fun, turn off the lights, get some glow sticks, and prepare yourself for the ultimate glow in the dark duel to the death!
2. Halifax Scavenger Hunt
Come on now, who doesn’t like a race against time? Create a list of weird or cool monuments and objects that you can find, all in downtown Halifax. Grab some friends and split into teams. Give a specific location everyone has to meet at for a specific time. Take pictures or grab objects to bring back as proof! You can really go crazy with this one!
3. Beach Day
It wouldn’t be anything like what your friends are experiencing down south, but it would be something even better! Bundle up in sweaters and head on down to any local beach that good old Nova Scotia has to offer. Walk along the beach and take in the beauty that is the seawater during the end of winter. Once you feel you’re filled enough with sea salty air, head on over to Two If By Sea by Alderney Landing where you can treat yourself to one of their delicious hot drinks. Not to mention their delectable croissants or massive cookies! It’s a day by the sea.
4. Clay Café
Located on Quinpool Road, the Clay Café has over 300 clay items you can choose from to paint! It is the perfect spot for a day of crafts! Pick a piece to paint and take as much time as you’d like, there’s no rush! After you’re finished painting, the staff then glaze and bake your piece so that it will be microwave and dishwasher safe! Once finished, you can relax and enjoy a hot tea or coffee while listening to the sound of vinyl records.
5. At Home Old Movie Day
A cheaper and cooler way to watch a movie! Choose some old classics, whether '80s or Audrey Hepburn-style films and set up a white blanket against a bare wall. Get yourself a projector and set it up with your computer or TV viewing system. Create an open space on the floor; lay out some blankets and pillows to make the best cuddly viewing spot possible. Last thing to do is grab some friends, grab some food and snuggle down for a flash to the past.
6. Throwback to the '50s
Ever wish you could have lived during the '50s? Now you can! Begin the '50s throwback by going bowling at Beazley’s Bowling Alley. Then, after you’ve determined a winner, head on down to the Chicken Burger! They have some seriously delicious milkshakes and burgers that are worth trying.
7. Spa Day
Everyone needs a little bit of rest and relaxation when it comes to the March Break vacation. So why not make that dream a reality with an at-home spa day! Boil some hot water and make yourself a cup of your favourite tea. All you have left to do is set up some music, full up the bathtub, pour in some bubble bath, grab a book and your tea, and you’re set for some good old quality me time.
